INTERMODAL GANTRY CRANE MODEL AUTOMATION USING ATMEGA128A MICROCONTROLLER AND DEVELOPMENT OF POSITIONING ALGORITHM

Abstract


Significantly increasing intercontinental trade, has grown sea freight by containers. In most of the ports quay cranes are operated manually by anoperator, who sits at the top of the crane. The main purpose of the loading process is quickly and safely load and unload ships. To improve productivitywe need to automate the crane and install fast load transfer and stabilization algorithm. For this purpose an intermodal cargo terminalquay crane prototype was creater which has been used to test the quay crane control algorithms. Crane control was performed using the prototypingboard with ATmega128A controller. In this work we show the designed quarry cranes exterior appearance, the components used, developedcrane positioning algorithm and its implementation in C programming language. Following this task, the quay crane with one button click automaticallymoves to the correct position to taken out or put in a container.
