ANALYSIS OF DOWEL AND TIMBER ELEMENTS CONTACT INFLUENCE TO JOINT RESISTANCE

Abstract


The objective of this research is to investigate the mechanical performance of dowel-type timber joints with different diameter predrilledholes. It was chosen to analyse single dowel joints with two shear planes loaded parallel to the grain. Experiment has beencarried out in accordance with LST EN 383:2007. Research contains five types of joint samples: with pre-drilled holes of Ø6 mm, Ø7mm, Ø8 mm, Ø10 mm and Ø12 mm. Dowel diameter is chosen as a constant which is M 8. According to the results of experiment,the use of 1 – 2 mm narrower or 2 – 4 mm wider pre-drilled holes lead to bearing resistance loss.
